King Charles has conferred a special honour on Dame Charlotte Manley, a former staffer of Prince Andrew. The 68-year-old was appointed a Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (DCVO) during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday.
Dame Manley served as Prince Andrew's Private Secretary and Treasurer between 2001 and 2003, having previously worked as his assistant from 1996. She was listed on the monarch's New Year's Honours List for 2026.
The honour comes weeks after Dame Manley agreed to assist Thames Valley Police with their investigation into Prince Andrew. The former prince was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office, which he denies. Manley told The Times: 'I would rather talk to the police than the press, not that I would have much to tell them.'
Dame Commander is the second-highest rank in the Royal Victorian Order, entitling the holder to use the title 'Dame'. Others honoured on Tuesday included actress Carey Mulligan and former Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Sir Tony Radakin.
Dame Manley retired last year from her role as chapter clerk of St George's Chapel, Windsor, a position she held since 2003. She was previously appointed an OBE in 1996 and a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 2018.
