Princess Kate Wears Single Poppy at Remembrance Sunday Service, Breaking Tradition

The Princess of Wales attended the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph in London with other senior royals, but subtly broke with tradition by wearing a single poppy instead of her usual three. Queen Camilla, standing beside her, wore three poppies on her coat.

The reason for wearing multiple poppies is not officially confirmed, but one theory links it to family members who died in war. Kate's great-grandmother lost three brothers in the First World War, while the late Queen Elizabeth II often wore five poppies, thought to represent the Army, Navy, RAF, Civil Defence and women.

King Charles led the two-minute silence and laid a wreath with poppies mounted on black leaves, incorporating his racing colours of scarlet, purple and gold. Prince William's wreath featured the Prince of Wales feathers with a Welsh red ribbon, while Queen Camilla's wreath was laid by her equerry and bore her racing colours.

Senior politicians including Sir Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch and Sir Ed Davey also laid wreaths. Around 10,000 veterans marched past, including D-Day veterans marking 80 years since the Second World War ended.

The Princess of Wales previously wore a special brooch in 2019 to honour her grandmother, who served as a codebreaker at Bletchley Park during the Second World War.
