Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are lacking self-awareness and show no signs of wanting to heal their royal rift, according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond. The couple's relationship with the royal family remains at breaking point, with Princess Eugenie believed to be their only ally within the Firm.
Speaking to OK! magazine, Bond criticised the couple's actions, noting that Meghan did not accompany Harry to the UK for a charity event last month, yet stayed on after the Invictus Games to visit Eugenie in Portugal. She also highlighted their recent holiday on a Caribbean island via private jet, questioning their environmental integrity.
Bond said: 'Neither Harry nor Meghan seem to have much self-awareness... They both need to take a look at themselves. Perhaps only Eugenie knows if they have any inclination to mend the rift with the rest of the family. For the moment, though, there is absolutely no sign that they intend to do so.'
Royal historian Dr Ed Owens also weighed in, warning that the Sussexes' decision to 'air their dirty laundry in public' has damaged the monarchy's family image. Speaking on the Mirror's Pod Save The King podcast, Owens said the rift has undermined King Charles III's vision of a united family monarchy supported by his two sons.
