Harry and Meghan's UK Return Motives Questioned

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly days away from moving to the UK, six years after stepping back from royal duties and settling in California. The couple, who have kept busy with podcasts, a Netflix docuseries, Meghan's As Ever brand and her Emmy-nominated With Love, Meghan Netflix series, are set to leave the US for the Cotswolds, according to reports.

Children to Start School in the UK

Their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, will begin school in the UK in September, and Meghan is set to continue working on her As Ever brand. The couple have not released a statement about their sudden move, but they will not be rejoining the Royal Family in any official capacity.

As they gear up for their return, royal commentators have questioned their motives for leaving the US.

Commentator Questions Motives

One of the couple's longtime critics, Kinsey Schofield, believes their American dream did not work out as they had hoped, leading them to decide to move back to the UK. During an appearance on The Royals Uncensored, she said she believes the couple are returning for professional pursuits, rather than to repair damaged relationships with the likes of King Charles III and Prince William.

She went on to point out that the couple had not decided to move when Prince Philip was in his final months, and when Harry's father received his cancer diagnosis.

Plans in the Works for a Year

However, sources close to the couple have told People Magazine that the plans to move back to the UK have been in the works "for about a year." Meanwhile, the couple's rep told the New York Times: "On the heels of a wonderful trip with family and friends this summer, Harry and Meghan have decided to spend an extended period in the UK this autumn. They are excited to have their children spend more time in the country that's such an important part of their family's story."

Last week, it was reported that Meghan was considering a return to acting. The former Suits actress was reportedly in talks to star in season 3 of Netflix's The Gentlemen. Other sources suggest that this move is intended to help Harry reconnect with his father, King Charles III. But according to commentator Kinsey Schofield, the couple were not embraced by Hollywood and America as they had hoped, which she believes spurred their decision to leave.
