The Prince and Princess of Wales are reportedly devoted fans of the BBC's Celebrity Traitors, with Prince William even making an inside joke about the show during a recent royal engagement.
Royal couple's favourite show
Speaking on Palace Confidential on YouTube, Daily Mail royal editor Rebecca English revealed that William and Kate are 'massive Traitors fans'. She said: "Now, William and Catherine are massive Traitors fans. I can tell you that now. They love the programme. Absolutely glued to it."
The series, which has an IMDb rating of 8.7, follows a group of celebrities competing in a game of deception, with a select few secretly designated as traitors who must deceive their fellow participants while avoiding detection.
Inside joke in Somerset
William's passion for the show was evident during a royal engagement in Somerset, where he met actor Ross Kemp, an ambassador for the National Emergencies Trust. The Prince was attending in his role as the charity's patron to draw attention to new equipment being introduced to assist those affected by flooding during the winter months.
Rebecca explained that William decided to have a bit of fun with the actor by occasionally touching him and asking: "Is it alright to touch you, Ross?" The joke was an inside reference to the programme, where Kemp's tough-guy image has been somewhat dented by his tendency to grow suspicious whenever someone makes physical contact with him.
Previous TV confessions
This is not the first time the couple have spoken openly about their television viewing habits. During a 2017 interview on BBC Radio 1, William revealed that they were enthusiastic fans of the American drama Homeland and the fantasy series Game of Thrones, telling presenter Scott Mills: "Homeland, we're big fans of that, and Game of Thrones."
The couple also disclosed that takeaways were a regular indulgence, with Kate confirming that they enjoyed ordering curry. William admitted, however, that spicy food was not particularly his forte.
Latest episode developments
Meanwhile, the latest episode of The Celebrity Traitors saw Richard E Grant banished from the show, with mathematician Hannah Fry recruited to take his place as a traitor. The actor received the highest number of votes from the other contestants, including his fellow traitors, Maya Jama and James Acaster.
As he prepared to disclose his identity to the group, Grant announced: "I am... an unfaithful traitor." Reflecting on his elimination on camera, he added: "I have been annihilated. I have managed to checkmate myself, which, as far as I'm aware, has never been done."
Rather than eliminating another contestant, Jama and Acaster chose to recruit Fry, inviting the professor to become the programme's third traitor. Fry accepted their proposition following the round-table discussion. Upon meeting her fellow traitors for the first time, she exclaimed: "I was sure you were Faithfuls, you absolute legends. Oh, it's going to be so fun!"
