Coronation Street villain Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) escalates her twisted campaign against her half-sister Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) by using young Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft Gardner) as an unwitting pawn. In upcoming episodes, Jodie's scheme drives Shona to a very public meltdown during her own birthday party.
Jodie's calculated bond with Lily
Jodie has been working to insert herself into Shona's family, attempting to seduce Shona's husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) and helping care for their premature baby Harper. Meanwhile, she has carefully cultivated a close relationship with her step-niece Lily, who felt neglected while Harper's health issues consumed her parents' attention. Jodie positioned herself as the 'cool aunt' and trusted confidante.
Twisted payback and stolen treasures
Jodie's kindness came with an underhanded agenda. When Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) fired Lily from her papergirl job, Jodie stole his favourite book as payback, storing it in a box of trinkets containing other stolen items, including DS Lisa Connor-Swain's police badge (Vicky Myers) and a gun she took from Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard). Lily discovered the box but Jodie convinced her the gun was fake, secretly keeping the very real firearm.
Birthday party betrayal
At Shona's birthday party, the cake has arrived when Lily's phone is plugged into the docking station and the room suddenly fills with the sound of Harper crying. Shona accuses Lily of recording the crying to convince her she was losing her mind. Swearing she has no idea how the recording got onto her phone, a distraught Lily flees the party. The question remains whether Lily is telling the truth or if Jodie orchestrated the prank.
Actress Olivia Frances-Brown told Metro that her character does care for Lily in her own way: 'Jodie genuinely does care about Lily. She relates to Lily's innocence and childlike qualities because Jodie has never really grown up herself. When Jodie feels genuine love from someone, she'll go to extreme lengths to protect them.' She added: 'That said, there's definitely a competitive element with Shona. Jodie loves the feeling of being needed and she gets a thrill thinking Lily prefers her as the 'cooler, funner' sister. She just wants to win.'
