Coronation Street fans believe they have spotted a clue in Lisa Connor-Swain's backstory that has not been explored on screen, after she mentioned a relative who survived cancer while supporting Kit Green following his diagnosis.
The detective, who arrived in Weatherfield in 2024, has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, which has spread to his lymph nodes, in a new health storyline. The news came after his family learned they may carry the familial BRCA gene, following the death of estranged Aunt Celeste, who left behind the family secret.
Kit's secret diagnosis
As Bernie Winter and Gemma Winter-Brown prepared for testing, Kit had already sought medical help over health concerns. Doctors confirmed his treatment plan, and he was given letters for his family about the BRCA gene, but he kept his diagnosis and the news that his mother carries the gene a secret until emotional scenes aired last month.
In those scenes, Kit and Dev Alahan accompanied Bernie to her appointment. In the waiting room, she said she knew in her heart her test would be negative. Kit lost his temper and stormed off, and when Bernie caught up, she berated him for his negative attitude.
Bombshell revelation
Later, Kit apologised to Bernie, but when she remained positive, he revealed he had been tested and knew she had the gene, adding that he had been diagnosed with cancer. Bernie was floored but vowed they were all in it together. After he left, she broke down in tears to Dev, fearing losing both her children following the death of her son, Paul Foreman, years ago.
Kit then told the rest of his family, including son Brody Michaelis, but he has been honest at work, leaving Lisa at her wits' end at the station. During Friday's (October 9) episode, news of a shooting in Weatherfield arrived, and with Kit seemingly off sick, Lisa demanded he be found to help.
Fans react to Lisa's comment
When Kit arrived at work, Lisa complained about his ignored calls, but he admitted he has cancer. Lisa was taken aback, and in a private room, she offered her support and wanted to arrange workplace help during his treatment. However, her mention of a relative who survived cancer sparked fan theories.
One fan said: "A relative...that survived it...and she has experience with it. Had to be someone close, right??? But who, Lisa, who" Another commented: "'A relative'? A RELATIVE?! The show won’t even specify an aunt, cousin, mother, or sister—or lock in any real details about Lisa’s family beyond just 'a relative'—because they don’t have a storyline yet. #Swarla #Corrie."
Others suggested Lisa may be referring to herself. One replied: "Could be herself she’s talking about." Another said: "I can’t help but wonder if the ‘relative’ is Lisa…. #Swarla #Corrie." A fan shared: "Ooh that’s a good shout. I like the thinking." Another wrote: "That was literally my first thought.." One added: "I was thinking that as Lisa is a very private person."
