A man found dead in a house of multiple occupation in Salford has been named as 44-year-old Mohamed Omar, a father described by his family as 'devoted' and 'hard-working'.
Police were called to Great Clowes Street in Lower Broughton on Wednesday morning, October 7, where a man in his 40s was found unresponsive. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the property, understood by the Manchester Evening News to be an HMO.
Family tribute to Mohamed Omar
Those who knew him have identified the man as Mohamed Omar, an Egyptian national whom friends say came to the UK legally in 2005. His family, who are raising funds to repatriate his remains, said they are 'heartbroken' by his death, describing him as a 'devoted father' who was 'working hard to build a better future for the people he loved'.
"He deserved the chance to return home, reunite with his loved ones, and enjoy the life he worked so hard to build," the tribute read. "We are seeking donations to cover the cost of transferring Mohamed’s remains home so he can be laid to rest in his family’s cemetery with dignity."
Arrests and police appeal
Greater Manchester Police said five men aged between 24 and 35 were arrested on suspicion of murder. In an update on Friday evening, the force confirmed four suspects have been bailed and another has been released under investigation. No-one has been charged.
GMP has appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact police on 101, use the LiveChat function on the force's website, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Donations to the family's fundraiser are being sought to help bring Mohamed Omar home for burial.
