Coronation Street viewers were left furious with Shona and David Platt on Friday night, branding the pair "stupid" after they covered up the accidental shooting of Jodie Ramsey.
In the fallout to the shooting, Shona, who fired the gun, hid her crime with the help of husband David. But their actions only made matters worse, with fans calling the situation "ludicrous".
What happened in the Jodie plot
Jodie had pointed the gun at Shona and David after her plan to target Shona and steal her life came out. David had also found all the things she stole from people, while he and Shona thought the gun was a toy. When it went off and injured Jodie, they were horrified to discover it was not a fake weapon, and now Jodie could die.
Fans pointed out that whatever happened to Jodie, Shona and David had enough to prove she was at fault and had committed a number of crimes. But instead of telling the truth, they covered their tracks, hid evidence and covered up what Jodie had done, as well as the true events.
Fans react to the cover-up
Now, they are at the mercy of Jodie, who regained consciousness in the episode and knows who shot her. She was toying with whether to tell police what Shona had done or hide it, but at a cost. Fans were furious that Jodie had all the power, as this should have been the moment she was exposed for everything.
One fan said: "David & Shona lying about what happened is the stupidest thing they could’ve done! There’s a box full of evidence against Jodie, multiple people who can back up claims, and a good defence. Instead they’ve set themselves up for Jodie to take more advantage of them!"
Another fan agreed: "What a pair of numpties David and Shona are. Why get rid of the only evidence that would prove Jodie did in fact have the gun, her prints would have been all over it."
More viewer backlash
A third fan posted: "David and Shona how stupid can you be Jodie is going to hold it over you, now she has control of the whole situation you idiots." A fourth said: "What a ludicrous episode yet again. Surely Shona and David telling the truth would have been a lot more credible and believable. They had nothing to lose by telling the truth. Bonkers."
A final comment said: "Bloody ridiculous, why on earth would they just not tell what actually happened? Jodie pulled the gun on them. Do we even know it was Shona's finger that pulled the trigger?"
