Controversial Big Brother housemate George Gilbert has shared his first social media post since being removed from the house, and it has drawn criticism. The 23-year-old parish councillor was ejected by ITV bosses this week following reports of 'inappropriate behaviour and language.'
In a video posted to Instagram, George is seen reclining in a garden with a book over his face. He then sits up, pulls a face at the camera, and says: 'I was asking questions. I just want to know the truth. You know?' The caption quotes Albert Einstein: 'The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.'
Commenters quickly called him out. Singer Sean Chriscole wrote: 'You broke broadcast standards... Do some self reflection and grow up.' Others demanded to know what he said that led to his removal. The book visible in the video, 'The Jews of England' by Jonathan A. Romain, has fuelled speculation that his comments may have been antisemitic, as reported by The Sun.
ITV has not broadcast the exact remarks, stating they violated broadcasting standards. George was called to the Diary Room while sleeping and told he was being removed. Prior to this, he had received a warning for mocking housemate Sam Ashby's hand gestures and voice, which left Sam feeling 'mocked as if I have some kind of disability.'
In a statement after his exit, George said: 'As a flag bearer of freedom of speech, I never hesitate to discuss and question any topic... Sadly, the boundaries of what is deemed offensive are subjective, and I evidently went too far this time.'
