Ryan Giggs' Life After Wales: A Quiet Existence Away from the Spotlight

Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has largely remained out of public view since resigning as Wales manager in June 2022 amid domestic abuse allegations. However, reports suggest the 50-year-old is preparing to return to football management, having hinted at a comeback in recent interviews.

Giggs succeeded Chris Coleman as Wales manager in 2018 and led the team to the Euro 2020 round of 16. But his tenure ended abruptly in 2022 after he was charged with controlling and coercive behaviour towards his ex-partner Kate Greville and assaulting her and her sister Emma in November 2020.

Legal Proceedings and Dropped Charges

Giggs was arrested on suspicion of assault in November 2020 and stood trial in 2022. The jury failed to reach majority verdicts on the assault charges and a charge of controlling and coercive behaviour spanning three years. During the trial, text messages revealed Giggs admitted to infidelity in all his past relationships.

A retrial was abandoned in 2023 when the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped all charges after Greville stated she felt "worn down" by the proceedings and could not face giving evidence again. Giggs has maintained a low profile since.

New Family with Model Girlfriend Zara Charles

At age 50, Giggs and his partner Zara Charles, a fashion and lingerie model 14 years his junior, welcomed a daughter named Cora on November 1, 2024. A representative confirmed: "Ryan and his partner Zara are delighted to announce the birth of their daughter, Cora Giggs, who was born on Friday 1 November. They extend their warmest gratitude to all the amazing staff, especially the midwives, at Wythenshawe Hospital."

Cora is Giggs' third child; he also has son Zach, 19, and daughter Libby, 23, from his marriage to Stacey Cooke. Giggs and Charles live in a seven-bedroom property in Greater Manchester, purchased for approximately £2.1 million. They recently enjoyed a romantic getaway to the Caribbean and frequently share photos on Instagram.

Hints at a Return to Football Management

Giggs stepped down as director of football at Salford City, the League Two club he co-owned with his Class of '92 peers, several months ago amid speculation he is preparing to return to management. Speaking about a potential comeback, he said: "I loved managing Wales, obviously. I do miss it, so hopefully."

In a chat with former teammate Rio Ferdinand on his podcast, Giggs revealed he was moved to tears watching Wales compete at the Euros from home. He said: "It was heartbreaking. It was obviously a very difficult time because I'm watching it on TV. And I'm like...who did we score against? We scored against, I can't remember if it was Turkey. And we scored late on, and I'm jumping around the front room, and then all of a sudden, I look at the TV, and it's all the staff and players jumping in the dugout, and I'm gone. Sat down and gone."

Son Zach Following in His Father's Footsteps

Giggs' son Zach is an exciting football prospect who represents Wales U-19s. He was registered with Sheffield United after leaving Manchester United's academy in 2023. The 19-year-old primarily operates as a left-back but also played on the right and centrally in defence during his time at Old Trafford. He is eligible for England but has progressed through Wales' youth ranks, having previously featured for the under-17s.
