Will Smith has been accused of using artificial intelligence to generate images of fans in a promotional video for his current tour. The actor and rapper shared the clip on Instagram, showcasing highlights from his tour supporting his first studio album in 20 years, 'Based On A True Story'.
The video shows packed crowds with fans holding signs and cheering. However, some viewers noticed that several audience members appear with blurred or distorted faces, oddly shaped hands, or extra fingers, leading to allegations of AI manipulation. One shot depicts a man holding a sign reading 'You Can Make It helped me survive cancer. THX Will,' but his knuckles appear merged into the sign.
Criticism has emerged on social media, with Reddit users calling the video 'pathetic' and suggesting it looks like 'image upscaling gone horribly wrong'. The controversy comes amid growing concerns over AI in the music industry, with a recent study warning that music workers could lose a quarter of their income to AI over the next four years.
Smith's tour continues in the UK, with dates in Cardiff and London. The actor has also faced other recent news, including Michael Bay's departure as director of Smith's film 'Fast And Loose' due to creative differences.
