Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has revealed a romantic gesture that spectacularly missed the mark, attempting to charm global superstar girlfriend Taylor Swift with a poorly timed Grammy Awards joke.
The NFL champion, fresh from his Super Bowl victory, made a swift trip to Las Vegas to support his teammate and close friend, quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording for his work, ‘How to Raise a Champion’.
A Joke That Didn't Land
In a light-hearted moment on his ‘New Heights’ podcast, co-hosted with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis recounted the exchange. "I said, ‘You know what’s crazy? I’ve never been to a Grammy Awards before’,” he shared.
Swift, a 14-time Grammy winner, saw straight through his setup. "She looked at me dead in the eye and said, ‘Yeah, I’ve been to a few’,” Kelce recalled, admitting the joke "didn’t land at all."
Supporting a Champion Teammate
The primary reason for Kelce's Vegas detour was to cheer on Patrick Mahomes. Despite the Chiefs quarterback's nomination, the award ultimately went to Michelle Obama for her audiobook ‘The Light We Carry’.
Kelce spoke warmly of the experience, praising the atmosphere and the opportunity to support his friend. "It was an incredible event… just being there to support Pat and see how it all works was amazing," he said.
From the Gridiron to the Red Carpet
The event marked a whirlwind period for Kelce, who attended just days after his triumphant Super Bowl LVIII win against the San Francisco 49ers. His presence at the Grammys, alongside his globally famous partner, created a media frenzy, blending the worlds of elite sport and high-profile entertainment in a single evening.
