The music world is in mourning following the tragic death of Andrew Ure, the lead singer of Scottish band The Ray Summers. The 41-year-old father of two died after going out for a hill walk on Hogmanay and failing to return home.

A Life Cut Short on Hogmanay

Andrew Ure, from Falkirk, had just celebrated his 41st birthday and was eager to try out new walking gear he had received as a gift. He set out on December 31st, 2025, but sadly never made it back. His brother confirmed the devastating news in a public statement, expressing the family's profound grief and gratitude to the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team for their efforts.

"On Hogmanay, Andy was buzzing about what 2026 had in store for us – but firstly about getting out for a hill walk in all his new birthday gear," his brother shared. "Sadly, he didn’t make it home. Massive thanks to the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team who the family are truly indebted to."

Heartfelt Tributes from Family and Bandmates

The statement continued with a poignant reflection on the loss: "So many people have lost a part of their world, as he meant so much to many. For me, I’ve lost my wee brother, my best pal, my business partner, my sounding board, and the daily reason I used my phone. Heartbroken doesn’t even come close."

His band, The Ray Summers, who had supported major acts like Paolo Nutini and Doves, posted a heartfelt tribute online. They described Andy as the "rock" in both the band and their personal lives, sending love to his partner, Linsey, his two young sons, and his wider family.

His partner, Linsey Waddell, shared a moving message alongside a photo: “On your birthday you wanted to look at the stars with me. Little did I know the next day you would be one of those stars. You were my guiding light and the biggest star of all.”

A Respected Figure in Music and Business

Beyond his music career, Andrew was also a director of the Wee Whisky Shop in Linlithgow, West Lothian. The shop's social media page posted a message expressing "profound sadness" at the loss of their colleague and director.

Tributes have flooded in from across the music scene and from fans. Fellow Scottish band The Poachers posted on X, stating they were "saddened to learn of the much too early passing" of Andrew, calling him "an incredible force on stage and great company off it."

Fans recalled unforgettable gigs and praised his talent as a singer and frontman, with many expressing devastation at the news. The collective outpouring of grief underscores the significant impact Andrew Ure had on those around him, both on and off the stage. The family has requested privacy as they come to terms with their immense loss.
