Pophouse Buys Tina Turner's Name, Image and Music Rights

Pophouse Entertainment, the Swedish company co-founded by ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus, has acquired Tina Turner's name, image and likeness rights, along with a majority share of her music catalogue, in a deal with BMG. The announcement was made on Thursday.

The Queen of Rock and Roll, who died in 2023 at age 83, sold more than 150 million records worldwide and won 12 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice and honoured at the Kennedy Center in 2005.

BMG retains a percentage of her catalogue. Alistair Norbury, president of BMG UK, Continental Europe and APAC, said: 'Tina Turner's voice and spirit shaped modern music and popular culture. Our responsibility, alongside Pophouse and the Estate, is to ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence and originality that defined her career.'

Pophouse, known for digital avatar productions, has expanded its portfolio with high-profile acquisitions. In 2024, KISS sold their catalogue, brand name and intellectual property to the company in a deal estimated at over $300 million. Pophouse also powers the ABBA Voyage show in London, featuring digital avatars of the band.
