Oasis Reportedly Lined Up For Next James Bond Theme Song
Oasis 'Lined Up' For Next James Bond Theme Tune

Iconic Britpop band Oasis are reportedly in advanced talks to record the theme tune for the next James Bond film, in what would be a monumental move for the recently reunited Gallagher brothers.

A Long-Held Ambition for Noel Gallagher

The news follows the band's hugely successful reunion tour this summer, which ended a 16-year feud between brothers Liam and Noel. For lead guitarist and songwriter Noel Gallagher, a lifelong Bond fan, the opportunity would fulfil a long-held ambition. Back in 2008, he publicly lamented that the theme for Quantum of Solace, 'Another Way to Die', was performed by Americans Alicia Keys and Jack White.

"It's a bit of a p**s-take that the greatest British agent of all time has to be soundtracked by a bunch of Americans," he said at the time. He even suggested that an unreleased Oasis track, 'Freaky Teeth', would make a "f*****g great Bond theme".

The New 007 Creative Team Takes Shape

The latest instalment in the 007 franchise is currently in development, with a significant shift behind the scenes. Longtime producer Barbara Broccoli has handed over creative control to Amazon MGM Studios, who acquired the rights. The film is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, the acclaimed filmmaker behind 'Dune'.

Acclaimed British screenwriter Steven Knight, creator of 'Peaky Blinders', was confirmed in August to be writing the screenplay. Speaking about the high-pressure assignment, Knight told BBC Radio 5 Live, "It has always been on my bucket list... I'm hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me."

Producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman are also on board, with Tanya Lapointe serving as executive producer.

The Perfect British Pairing?

A source close to the discussions told The Sun: "The 007 films are one of the great British franchises. And who better to record the theme song than one of the greatest ever British bands? Liam's swagger and Noel's anthemic music would be perfect to soundtrack the new film."

Noel Gallagher is said to be particularly keen to join the legendary list of Bond theme composers, which includes Sir Paul McCartney, Duran Duran, and Adele. The band's representatives have been contacted for comment regarding the reports.

The casting for the new James Bond remains a tightly guarded secret, with names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Mescal, and Theo James frequently mentioned. Knight remained coy on the subject, stating, "That is a very, very good question, and one I can't give you the answer to."

The last Bond film, 2021's 'No Time To Die', starred Daniel Craig in his final outing as the secret agent.
