Nicki Minaj has faced significant backlash from fans after aligning herself with the Trump administration, including a surprise appearance at the Turning Point USA AmericaFest convention in December. There, she praised the late Charlie Kirk and Vice-President JD Vance, though she accidentally referred to Vance as an “assassin” before being forgiven by Kirk’s widow.
Two online petitions calling for Minaj’s deportation have amassed over 120,000 signatures. Minaj, who came to the US from Trinidad and Tobago as an undocumented child, has previously been critical of Trump’s immigration policies, even rapping about them in 2016. Some speculate she may now be seeking a pardon for her husband, Kenneth Petty, a registered sex offender, or her brother, a convicted child rapist, though Trump cannot erase state convictions.
Others suggest Minaj may be playing a long game, anticipating that aligning with Trump could prove lucrative. Despite losing some fans, she could potentially gain influence in conservative circles. The rapper’s shift has left many questioning her motives, but her career trajectory remains uncertain.
