McFly singer Tom Fletcher will release the song he performed with his 11-year-old son Buzz during BBC’s Children In Need as a single on Christmas Eve. The track, titled Thread Of Hope, was written and performed by Fletcher, accompanied by Buzz.
The song features in the BBC Children In Need animation Pudsey And The Thread Of Hope, which will air on Christmas Eve at 10.20am on BBC One and iPlayer. The 25-minute film follows a young boy named Jai who, while grieving for his father, embarks on a journey of healing with Pudsey Bear, meeting other children connected by a golden thread of kindness.
Fletcher, 40, called the opportunity to write a song for the animation “such an honour”. He said: “It’s been amazing seeing Pudsey brought to life in animation for the first time. I wanted to write for animation for ages and so finding myself with the responsibility of another iconic bear… I don’t know why I’ve got all these bears in my life at the minute! It’s Pudsey’s 40th anniversary and to be on Christmas Eve is really special.”
The track also features voices from The Habbit Factory inclusive theatre programme, whose members have previously performed in the Children In Need choir. The music video, released on the same day, includes footage of Fletcher performing the song on stage at the BBC Children In Need event last month.
Fletcher, a former Strictly Come Dancing contestant, has written children’s books including The Dinosaur That Pooped A Planet! and the The Christmasaurus series. He also wrote music and lyrics for Paddington The Musical, based on Michael Bond’s book A Bear Called Paddington.
