Born Eric Boucher, Biafra co-founded Dead Kennedys in San Francisco in 1978. The band's debut album, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, became a punk classic for its left-wing satire. After the band split in 1986, he formed Lard with members of Ministry and later turned down a reunion in 2001 due to legal disputes.

In recent years, Biafra has focused on spoken word performances and political activism. His most recent album, Tea Party Revenge Porn, was released in 2020 with his band Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine.
