James's Fury: Indie Icons Blast Tommy Robinson for 'Cynical' Use of Hit Song 'Sit Down'
James Condemn Tommy Robinson for "Cynical" Song Use

Britpop icons James have launched a fierce attack on far-right activist Tommy Robinson for what they call the "cynical" and unauthorised use of their classic anthem 'Sit Down' at a political gathering.

The band's frontman, Tim Booth, expressed his disgust and anger after footage emerged of Robinson walking on stage to the song's distinctive melody during an event in Stoke-on-Trent. The track, known for its message of inclusivity and unity, was co-opted in a move the band finds deeply offensive and entirely contrary to its spirit.

"We are appalled," a statement from the group said. "The use of our music is a cynical attempt to associate his agenda with something positive. Our song 'Sit Down' has always been about inclusion and solidarity. Its use in this context is a complete perversion of its meaning, and we want nothing to do with him or his views."

This is not the first time artists have clashed with political figures over the use of their work. Numerous musicians, from Adele to The Rolling Stones, have previously issued cease-and-desist orders to prevent their music from being used at rallies without consent, particularly by groups whose ideologies they oppose.

The incident highlights the ongoing battle between artists and political movements over cultural symbolism and the power of music to lend a false sense of legitimacy to a cause. James have confirmed they are now exploring all legal avenues to prevent any future use of their music by Robinson or associated groups.
