Dominic Chinea in 'terrible' health update after ‘manic’ time on The Repair Shop

The Repair Shop star Dominic Chinea has revealed he is “feeling terrible” after a “manic” filming schedule left him exhausted and ill. The metal worker, who has been a popular figure on the BBC show since 2017, shared the update on his YouTube channel.

Chinea, who recently moved from Kent to Cornwall with his wife Maria and their dog Wendy, said he has been battling a “horrible cold” and feeling “extremely run down”. He attributed his condition to a busy period that included two weeks of filming for The Repair Shop and a visit to the NEC.

In the video, Chinea also addressed ongoing issues with his workshop, which was damaged by storms in January. He said: “The storm has caused a lot of damage, the workshop roof, various tiles and bits and bobs. I’m doing my best to deal with those.” He also expressed frustration at the sound of chainsaws in Cornwall, noting that “every tree surgeon in Cornwall is up to their eyeballs busy”.

Chinea previously described the move to Cornwall as “life-changing” but admitted it has been stressful. He said: “It is completely life-changing. It really is. I'm never moving again. It was stressful, but it's like having that workshop and having that at home has been a dream for so long.”

Despite the challenges, Chinea continues to balance his presenting duties with work on his workshop, where he restores old cars including a Land Rover Series 1 and a Land Rover Defender 110. The Repair Shop airs tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.
