Cat Burns tops Google searches for 2025

British singer-songwriter Cat Burns has ended 2025 as the United Kingdom's most searched-for female musician on Google, capping off a remarkable year defined by a chart-topping album and a memorable stint on hit BBC reality show The Celebrity Traitors.

A Whirlwind Year for a Rising Star

The 25-year-old artist's surge in online searches followed the successful release of her second studio album, How To Be Human. Her popularity was further amplified by her strategic gameplay on The Celebrity Traitors, where she reached the final before being banished alongside TV host Jonathan Ross. Comedian Alan Carr ultimately clinched the victory.

Reflecting on her extraordinary year, Burns said: "This year has been a whirlwind. Going from watching The Traitors on my sofa to actually being in the castle was surreal, and the love I’ve felt from the British public has been genuinely heartwarming." She added, "To have that support carry over to my new album How To Be Human means the world to me. It’s been such a massive year for women in music, so ending 2025 as Google’s top trending female musician is the cherry on top."

The influence of The Celebrity Traitors on public interest was unmistakable. Fellow contestants Charlotte Church and Paloma Faith secured third and fourth place respectively in the female musician rankings. Faith had also announced a pregnancy in October 2025. Lily Allen, who released her first album in seven years, West End Girl, took second place, with 1990s icon Alanis Morissette completing the top five.

In the male musician category, the long-awaited Oasis reunion of 2025 propelled the Britpop legends to the number one search spot. They were followed by McFly's Danny Jones, Sir Rod Stewart, rapper Kendrick Lamar, and Lewis Capaldi, whose emotional return to Glastonbury Festival resonated widely.

The data, compiled by Google Trends, also highlighted the nation's viewing habits and moments of collective mourning. The top searched TV show was the hard-hitting Netflix drama Adolescence, which sparked a national debate on misogyny. The most searched-for person overall was actor Mickey Rourke, following his controversial removal from Celebrity Big Brother.

Reflecting a Nation's Mood

Google Trends expert Matt Cooke analysed the results, stating: "Google Search is often a mirror to our collective mood, and in 2025 that reflection was distinctly British. It’s been a year defined by deep emotion — from the shared national grief for Ozzy Osbourne to the euphoria of the long-awaited Oasis reunion."

He concluded: "Whether we were championing new icons like Cat Burns or dissecting every twist in The Celebrity Traitors, the trends reveal a country eager to connect, celebrate and support its own."

The list of most searched-for notable deaths was led by US commentator Charlie Kirk, followed by rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, who died in July 2025 just days after a Black Sabbath reunion concert.
