The BBC has sacked Radio 2 breakfast show host Scott Mills following allegations about his personal conduct, the corporation confirmed. Mills, who presented Britain's most popular radio breakfast show, was taken off air last Tuesday and his contract has been terminated.
The allegations relate to a 'historic relationship' more than 10 years ago, according to a report in the Mirror cited by BBC News. Mills, 53, joined Radio 2 in 2022 and took over the breakfast show from Zoe Ball in January 2025, boosting its audience to 6.5 million listeners.
Lorna Clarke, the BBC's director of music, informed staff in a statement that Mills had left the breakfast show and the BBC, describing the news as 'sudden and unexpected'. She said she would update staff on plans for the show when possible.
Mills' departure marks the latest crisis for the BBC over presenter conduct, following allegations against Huw Edwards and Tim Westwood. It occurred in the final week of Tim Davie's tenure as director general, with Matt Brittin set to take over.
Temporary replacements Gary Davies and OJ Borg will cover the breakfast show for the next week. Mills was also due to host the upcoming BBC podcast Race Across the World: The Detour and the Pop Top 10 podcast alongside Rylan Clark.
Mills apparently did not know he would not return when he signed off on 24 March, telling listeners: 'See you tomorrow.' Jeremy Vine said he was 'taken aback' by the news, learning of it only 17 minutes before his own show.
