Kilmarnock singer Jamie Stephenson will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for singing Elvis Presley songs non-stop at the town's CentreStage from Wednesday, October 14 to Friday, October 16.
The Ayrshire performer plans to sing The King's most famous hits continuously, aiming to surpass the current world record of 43 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds. Fans can expect to hear classics such as Blue Suede Shoes, Suspicious Minds and Jailhouse Rock during the marathon performance.
Fundraising for four charities
Jamie hopes to raise as much money as possible for four charities: Centrestage Communities Ltd, Ayrshire Deaf Club SCIO, Beautiful Inside and Out SCIO and Ayrshire Baby Loss Support. So far, he has raised almost half of his £1,000 fundraising target but hopes to raise much more.
On his GoFundMe page, he wrote: "I am fundraising for four wonderful charities: Centrestage Communities Ltd which provides access to the arts to anyone who otherwise might not be able to afford it, Ayrshire Deaf Club SCIO which supports the Deaf community and their families in a variety of ways, Beautiful Inside And Out SCIO which supports those who have lost loved ones to suicide and Ayrshire Baby Loss Support which provides help and support to parents who have suffered the trauma of losing a baby."
Vegas-style jumpsuit under consideration
Jamie joked that dressing in a sequined jumpsuit, similar to what Elvis wore during his Las Vegas days, may feature for at least part of the attempt and is certainly "under consideration." He also revealed that a friend has pledged to lend him a jumpsuit to add a touch of Vegas glamour to the performance.
Jamie said: "From 14 to 16 October, I will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for singing Elvis songs non-stop."
