True Brit Entertainment, a UK film distributor founded by veteran film executive Zygi Kamasa in 2023, has entered administration after three years of operation. The company specialised in acquiring UK rights for major theatrical releases, including the recently released Hugh Jackman film, The Death of Robin Hood.
The business was put into administration at the end of September, with administrators appointed earlier this week. The firm was backed by talent management and entertainment company Three Six Zero.
Company vision and background
True Brit described its vision as becoming the “foremost distributor of British films in the UK”. Kamasa has been in the industry for over 25 years, helping to invest in independent British films and TV projects. He also helped finance over 50 British films and led the theatrical release of over 300 films within the UK, including blockbusters from The Hunger Games to La La Land.
Previously, Kamasa was the group CEO of Marv Studios, where he partnered with director and producer Matthew Vaughn, as well as the CEO of Lionsgate UK & Europe until 2020.
Administration details
Lloyd Hinton and Kelly Knight, both of Insolve Plus Ltd, were appointed joint liquidators on October 5, according to The Gazette. The administration was attributed to “extremely challenging market conditions”.
Regarding the administration, Kamasa told Deadline: “In extremely challenging market conditions, the company has taken the difficult decision to enter administration.
“An independent specialist has now been appointed to oversee the company and assess the options available, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for the company and its creditors.”
