The Swedish death metal powerhouse Arch Enemy has officially severed ties with its lead vocalist, Alissa White-Gluz, concluding a formidable 12-year collaboration. The band made the unexpected announcement in a concise statement released on Sunday, 23rd November 2025.
A Sudden End to a 12-Year Era
The band's statement was direct, offering no specific reason for the Canadian singer's exit. It read, “Arch Enemy have parted ways with singer Alissa White-Gluz. We’re thankful for the time and music we’ve shared and wish her all the best.” The message concluded on a forward-looking note, hinting at a new chapter: “Wherever there is an ending, there is also a beginning. See you in 2026.”
Alissa White-Gluz, now 40, first joined the group in 2014. She was personally recommended as a successor by the band's former frontwoman, Angela Gossow. Interestingly, Gossow remained with Arch Enemy in a managerial capacity after stepping down from vocal duties. Before her tenure with Arch Enemy, White-Gluz was a founding member of the metalcore act The Agonist.
Musical Legacy and Immediate Aftermath
During her time as the voice of Arch Enemy, White-Gluz featured on several studio albums that defined a generation of melodic death metal. Her contributions are heard on ‘War Eternal’ (2014), ‘Will to Power’ (2017), and ‘Deceivers’ (2022). The band's most recent record, ‘Blood Dynasty,’ released earlier this year, will stand as her final album with the group. Formed as a supergroup in 1995, Arch Enemy has now released 11 studio albums in total.
The split comes just after the band concluded its European tour last week. Despite the significant line-up change, Arch Enemy is still scheduled to perform at several festivals next summer. The band has not yet announced a replacement for the lead vocalist position.
White-Gluz's New Solo Chapter
Shortly after the news broke, Alissa White-Gluz addressed her departure on social media. “After 12 years in Arch Enemy, we have parted ways,” the vocalist wrote on Instagram. She expressed gratitude to her fans, known as Beastlings, and teased her next move, stating she had been working on new material with “big surprises in store.”
Her announcement was swiftly followed by action. Merely two hours later, she released her debut solo single, “The Room Where She Died,” and confirmed that a full solo album is on the horizon. In a statement about the track, she said, “This upcoming album is diverse; and I love the idea of opening up this new chapter with this song and video.” Fans can expect more news from the artist in 2026.
