Australian rock legend Angus Young was spotted enjoying a well-deserved day off in Sydney this week, presenting a far more relaxed figure than his high-voltage on-stage persona.
A Casual Outing for a Rock Icon
The iconic AC/DC guitarist, aged 70, took a break from the band's ongoing Australian tour to step out for a yum-cha lunch with his wife of 45 years, Ellen van Lochem. The couple, happily chatting as they made their way to a Sydney restaurant, were enjoying some precious downtime together.
Angus, famous for his electrifying schoolboy uniform on stage, opted for a decidedly casual look. He wore a light grey T-shirt and form-fitting light blue jeans, finishing the ensemble with a classic pair of Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers. His long, silver hair was left to blow freely in the breeze.
His wife Ellen provided a splash of colour, wearing an abstract-patterned dress in vibrant pink, blue, and purple tones. She accessorised with a large multicoloured crochet tote bag and wore her blonde hair in a tight bun.
Hometown Heroes Hailed After Epic Performances
The leisurely lunch came after AC/DC's triumphant arrival in Sydney, where they were hailed as 'hometown heroes'. This followed two massive shows at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena, solidifying their legendary status.
The band delivered a gigantic 21-song setlist at Sydney's Accor Stadium, treating an adoring crowd to a powerhouse performance. They opened with their 1978 classic If You Want Blood (You've Got It) and held the audience captivated right through to a two-song encore of T.N.T. and For Those About to Rock We Salute You.
Angus was, as ever, a whirlwind of energy and rock and roll swagger. Commanding the stage with his iconic strut, he expertly played his black Gibson SG guitar while running around with abandon. For this performance, he swapped his usual bright red schoolboy shorts for a deep purple version, adding a pop of colour with a bright yellow cap emblazoned with a large 'A'.
Fan Adoration and the Tour Continues
The ecstatic crowd, many wearing AC/DC-branded devil horns, lapped up every second of the performance. The excitement spilled over onto social media, where the band's 'thank you, Sydney' post on Instagram was met with a swarm of reciprocated love.
Fans and celebrities alike were effusive in their praise. Married At First Sight star Dean Wells called AC/DC the 'best rock band of all time', marvelling at how the members, at 70 years old, 'still kick a** over all modern music'.
Other fans noted that frontman Brian Johnson sounded as he did '20 yrs ago' and that Angus's relentless energy, strutting, and jumping for two hours while playing incredible solos, 'puts any musician to shame'.
The iconic Australian rockers are now mid-way through the Down Under leg of their global Power Up tour. The tour continues with the bp Adelaide Grand Final this Sunday, followed by shows at Perth's Optus Stadium on December 4 and 8. The Australian run will conclude with two final performances at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium on December 14 and 18.
