Susanna Reid shares Piers Morgan's response to BGT return rumours
Susanna Reid reveals Piers Morgan's reply to BGT comeback talk

Susanna Reid has addressed rumours that Piers Morgan might be making a comeback to Britain's Got Talent. The 61-year-old served as a judge on the ITV talent programme from its debut in 2007 through to 2010, and is reportedly poised to return for its 20th anniversary next year.

Piers has added fuel to the speculation by sharing a pair of eyes emoji in reaction to a report about "two huge stars" staging a comeback on the programme.

Emoji response on Good Morning Britain

During Monday's Good Morning Britain (October 12), Susanna disclosed that she questioned her former co-presenter directly about the rumours, and he merely replied with a laughing emoji. The ITV presenter continued: "Then I noticed that he wasn't denying it. Whatever happens, he definitely wants us to talk about it."

She added: "He has always said that in its hey day, when he was on the judging panel, Britain's Got Talent had its highest ratings, its greatest appeal. So what do they need? They need Piers Morgan back on the judging panel."

Piers Morgan's departure and previous offers

Piers departed the BGT judging panel in 2010, claiming it was because he needed to concentrate on his CNN chat show, Piers Morgan Live.

"There's been considerable speculation about what my new CNN job means for my role on Britain's Got Talent. Well, sadly, I can now confirm that I will have to quit BGT, as I will be ensconced in New York interviewing popes, presidents, pugilists and popstars when the auditions are filmed next year," he said at the time.

The former Good Morning Britain host revealed that ITV executives approached him "several times" to make a comeback to the judging panel in 2020. "I was approached several times to go back to Britain's Got Talent when Simon Cowell got injured," he disclosed. "That would have been quite fun, but I'd rather do it with him."

Piers went on to say: "He and I had a great chemistry and it would have been quite a fun one to go back in and have a laugh with Simon, but he'd have to be involved. I've seen how other people are with him."

Potential reunion for 20th anniversary

Over 16 years later, Piers could be poised to reunite with original judges Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden, as well as Alesha Dixon and KSI.

"A 20th anniversary extravaganza is in the works as producers work out which familiar faces to bring back to celebrate the huge milestone," an insider told The Sun. "Simon, Piers and Amanda had such fun chemistry. The idea would be to bring Piers back as a guest judge for the January auditions."

Good Morning Britain is on ITV1 and ITVX.
