EA Sports FC 27 players have discovered a new exploit that allows them to score goals from the opposite end of the pitch with alarming consistency. The bug, which has gone viral over the past week, has been labelled "unstoppable" and "insane" by fans and content creators.
How the exploit works
The trick involves having a free-kick in a player's own half and using the player lock mechanic to select a specific team member. Normally, this feature helps set up a player run on the attack, but in this exploit it is used to select a player on the offending team as a target for the free-kick taker.
By placing the locked player inside the goal, behind the goalkeeper, the ball is fired at rocket-like speed towards the goal. Because the opposition goalkeeper is already out of position, the ball sails past them and into the net.
Fan reaction and calls for a hotfix
Many fans have called on EA Sports to release a hotfix as soon as possible to stop players abusing the bug. Reddit users are united in their opposition to the glitch, with one saying: "Whoever noticed it could’ve simply reported this exploit to EA. But these content creators started making shorts on this exploit and spread it."
A second Reddit user said the glitch "reminds me of FIFA 2006 midfield shot," while another felt that the bug's existence weeks after the game came out is a sign that it is "really getting worse and worse."
How to counter the new free-kick glitch
One player has found a response. A Redditor uncovered a counter that can punish gamers exploiting it. They wrote: "Played someone who was constantly trying to get me to foul them so they could do this. Thankfully I had watched the video on how to counter it by dragging your defender back so they would clear it or make their player offside."
They added: "Resulted in an offside so decided to return the favour and do it back to them. Of the five games I played they were the only one who did it but I suspect finishing off rivals and champs at the weekend may be a different story."
"I found that as long your attacker has a decent amount of strength you can get the ball back, assuming they are shielding it, without fouling them. But if you do foul them you've got to pull your keeper back onto the line while also pulling your last defender back and they won't be able to score."
