Two beloved Call of Duty titles are officially landing on modern PlayStation consoles this summer, Treyarch has confirmed, ending years of anticipation for fans. The ports of the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are arriving as soon as next month.
Official Announcement
Black Ops studio Treyarch revealed the news via social media on Wednesday, June 17, stating that versions of the legendary first two games are coming this July. The developer, a subsidiary of Activision, is collaborating with Iron Galaxy to bring these classics to PlayStation platforms.
Iron Galaxy, known for developing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 and adapting Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch, has a strong track record with ports and remasters.
What's Included
A Treyarch spokesperson confirmed: "It's official: the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, courtesy of our partners at Iron Galaxy. Both will include Campaign, Multiplayer and Zombies."
Ending Long-Standing Frustration
The announcement resolves a major frustration for PlayStation owners. While Xbox players have accessed these classic titles through backwards compatibility, PS4 and PS5 gamers have been left out until now. It remains unclear whether the ports will be native PS5 versions or designed for PS4 with backwards compatibility.
Fan Reaction
Call of Duty fans have expressed excitement, particularly those who cherish the earlier titles. Gamers on Reddit shared their joy: one user said, "Multiplayer and Zombies on Black Ops 1 and 2 are literally some of my best gaming memories of all time." Another wrote, "Multiplayer on these two games was amazing, would take me back to the good old days." A third exclaimed, "OMG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS."
While some raised concerns about the absence of a Switch or Switch 2 version, the overall response has been overwhelmingly positive.
