Thousands Enjoy Blyth Live 2026
Thousands of visitors descended on the Northumberland coastal town of Blyth on Saturday for the annual free music festival, Blyth Live. The event, held at the Mermaid Car Park on Blyth Seafront, featured 90s dance act D-Ream as headliners, alongside the Bay City Rollers, who returned to the stage after their 2025 performance was cut short by a lightning strike.
The festival offered a wide range of entertainment, including a funfair, family activities, market stalls, and food vendors. Other acts included Taylor Swift tribute Naiomi Smyth, Groove Train, She the Show, Harriet Rose, Be Right Back, and Rosie. Local community groups such as Community Voices, Blyth Valley Samba, and Linsey School of Dance also performed.
A Growing Cultural Event
Julie Summers from Blyth Town Council described the event as "one of the highlights of the town's events calendar," adding that it "continues to grow in popularity and scale, putting the town on the cultural map." The festival attracted thousands of attendees, enjoying sunny weather throughout the day.
The Bay City Rollers' appearance was particularly notable as they made up for last year's curtailed set. D-Ream, known for their hit "Things Can Only Get Better," energized the crowd with their 90s classics. The event showcased a mix of national acts and local talent, reinforcing Blyth's reputation as a cultural destination on the Northumberland coast.
Community and Family Focus
In addition to the music, the festival offered a range of activities for all ages. The funfair and family activities provided entertainment for children, while market stalls and food vendors offered local produce and refreshments. The inclusion of community groups highlighted the festival's emphasis on local participation and support.
Blyth Live, organized by Blyth Town Council, has become a staple in the town's calendar, drawing visitors from across the region. The free entry policy ensures accessibility, allowing families to enjoy a day out without financial burden. The success of the 2026 edition suggests continued growth for future events.
