While Ladies Day remains several months away, Ascot has provided fashion enthusiasts with an exciting preview by revealing the annual Royal Ascot Millinery Collective. This prestigious event, held in Windsor Great Park each June, stands as a cornerstone of the high society fashion calendar, where statement hats consistently serve as the centrepiece of racegoers' ensembles.
Creative Direction and Inspiration
The 2026 collection, developed under the creative guidance of acclaimed British fashion designer Daniel Fletcher, was presented during an intimate London Fashion Week showcase at Claridge's on Monday. The designs draw profound inspiration from the legendary British photographer Cecil Beaton, capturing the sophisticated glamour characteristic of the 1920s and 1930s.
Fletcher expressed his honour in steering the collective into its eleventh year, collaborating with some of the world's most exceptional milliners. The presentation celebrated extraordinary craftsmanship while emphasising the ongoing evolution of millinery as a dynamic and contemporary art form.
Notable Contributors and Designs
The collective features contributions from leading milliners, including Stephen Jones OBE, renowned for designing headpieces for Princess Diana and Rihanna, and serving as head milliner for Christian Dior since 1992. Additionally, the showcase highlighted the work of Emily Hurst, recipient of the £10,000 annual bursary awarded by Ascot Racecourse in partnership with the CHANEL & The King's Foundation Métiers d'Art Millinery Fellowship.
Hurst described the experience of seeing her hat on the runway alongside esteemed milliners as surreal and unforgettable. She praised the show for celebrating the heritage, creativity, and future of millinery, noting the unique artistry each designer brought to the event.

The collection interprets Beaton's legacy through various innovative elements, including sculptural straw work, architectural pillboxes, dramatic picture discs, delicate veils, and couture floral headpieces. Standout designs featured a lilac top hat adorned with dramatic netting, an elegant green fascinator, and an angled brown hat with an extravagant bow.
These hats were presented alongside custom cream trouser suits by Daniel Fletcher, tailored to reflect the Royal Enclosure dress code and the enduring traditions of British sartorial excellence. The event attracted notable guests, including Romeo Beckham's girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, and television personality Kelly Osbourne.
