Meghan Markle Sparks 20,000 Surge in Gold Chain Sales

Meghan Markle has triggered a major sales boost for a New York jewellery brand after being spotted wearing their ethically-made gold ring. The Duchess of Sussex's choice of Catbird's Threadbare ring has prompted 20,000 people to purchase the simple £34 design.

Catbird founder Rony Vardi told Women's Wear Daily that demand for the thin stackable rings was minimal when she first opened her boutique. However, since Meghan's relationship with Prince Harry became public, sales have soared. The ring is made by "hands that are employed under ethical standards" in New York.

Meghan first wrote about her love for the style on her lifestyle blog The Tig in 2015, long before she received her royal title. The former Suits star has worn the ring countless times since, including during a 2017 trip to Botswana with Prince Harry and at the Anzac Day commemorations in London in 2018.

Catbird's product page now highlights the royal connection, stating: "PS - This ring is worn everyday by a certain American turned princess with the initials M.M.!" The Duchess is known for favouring independent designers and sustainably-sourced jewels, often opting for pieces from ethical brands.
