A Northumberland town is preparing to host its inaugural music festival this September, aiming to establish itself as a cultural and artistic hub. The Haltwhistle Music Festival will take place from Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6, with a variety of venues participating across the first weekend of the month.
Festival Highlights and Headliners
Headliners include award-winning folk duo Janie Burns and John Doran, who will perform at Holy Cross Church. The programme also features an African drumming workshop and a tea dance. Local musicians will have the chance to perform on the Outdoor Stage in Market Square. Haltwhistle's hospitality businesses will offer festival specials, and a beer festival will be held.
Community Involvement and Future Plans
The event has been organized by local volunteers from Field Shelter CIC, who have curated the programme over recent months. A spokesperson stated: "The Festival will be for everyone in the town - residents, businesses and musicians. More than that, we look forward to welcoming people from beyond the immediate area by highlighting what Haltwhistle offers." The organizers hope the festival becomes an annual fixture, making the first weekend of September a must-attend event.
While some events may be ticketed due to capacity constraints, music at all venues will be free. For more information or to find tickets, visit the Haltwhistle Music Festival page on Eventbrite. Haltwhistle already hosts a popular walking festival each spring.
