Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is concerned he is not receiving adequate security following an alleged incident near his residence in Sandringham. The disgraced former prince believes he is 'more at risk' than other members of the royal family, having lost his taxpayer-funded protection when his titles were revoked. According to The Telegraph, Andrew feels there are 'fixated individuals' targeting him, citing his association with Jeffrey Epstein and revelations about his time as UK trade envoy as factors that may have increased his risk. He now seeks taxpayer-funded protection after an alleged altercation near his Norfolk home last month.
Alleged Incident and Legal Proceedings
Alex Jenkinson, 39, has been charged with threatening Andrew near his home at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate. Jenkinson appeared in court and was given an interim stalking prevention order (SPO) on Thursday. He is scheduled for trial on July 29 and was warned he could face up to five years in prison if he violates the conditions of the order. A source indicated that while Andrew was 'reassured' by the court's decision, the incident highlights that royals cannot be 'uninvented'. The source noted that although Andrew is no longer a working royal, he faces the same security risks as active members.
Security Concerns and History
Andrew has reportedly sought enhanced security 'for years', but it is unlikely that taxpayers will cover the cost given his tarnished reputation. Officers arrested Jenkinson after he allegedly wore a black balaclava and camouflage clothing and chased Andrew. Authorities found a 'palm-sized' rock in his pocket and a wooden-handled axe in his car. The court heard that his phone browser history included searches related to the Princess of Wales and her children, Charlotte and Louis, as well as weapons and killing methods. Last year, Prince Harry lost a legal battle against the Home Office over his own security arrangements. He had argued for police protection based on his birth status and is awaiting a decision from the Royal and VIP Executive Committee after a risk assessment.
