Robson Green has given fans a first glimpse of himself in the BBC's upcoming drama The Northumbria Mysteries. The Northumberland-born actor, best known for playing DI Geordie Keating in ITV's Grantchester, takes on the role of ex-con Joe Ruby, described as a 'Jack-of-all-trades'.
New role in North East-set detective series
While Joe's life has been shaped by missed opportunities, mistakes and regrets, the same cannot be said for his partner, Oxford-educated DI Rose O'Connell (Liz White), who is his polar opposite. The synopsis for the show reads: "In a classic odd-couple pairing, Joe and Rose combine their talents as they frustrate, confound, and ultimately surprise one another while unravelling a series of compelling crime mysteries."
The North East-set detective series is due to air later this month. Sharing an image of himself with co-star Liz on Instagram, Robson captioned the post: "Coming soon to BBC 1 'The Northumbria Mysteries' So proud to be part of this New Series set against the stunning, dramatic and spiritual backdrop of Northumberland and an absolute joy and privilege to be working alongside the amazing @lizwhite2021 and the gorgeous @trogram as well as an outstanding production team from @lonesomepinetv ........more to follow."
Fans share excitement over upcoming drama
Fans were quick to comment on the post, with many expressing their excitement. One person said: "Excited! You were awesome in The Game!" Another wrote: "So excited, my favourite actor in a new show. Plus, Liz White is fabulous!" A third commented: "Always love a drama set locally and with Robson in it, what could be better. I'm looking forward to it."
A fourth added: "Looking forward to watching this." While another said: "Can't wait. Anything Robson Green is in is fantastic."
Praise for Northumberland backdrop
Speaking previously to BBC News about filming the series, Robson had nothing but praise for working in his home region, commenting: "Northumberland, the landscape in itself, is a principal character." He added: "Set against this amazing backdrop, you have this really unusual, likeable and oddball pairing, who slowly realise they have a connection. They're trying to work out what that connection is and then later on through the series, what to do with that connection."
The series is set to air Friday 23 October on BBC One at 2pm.
