In a landmark move for brick-building fans and sci-fi enthusiasts alike, Lego has officially announced its first-ever Star Trek construction set. This highly anticipated model is a detailed recreation of the iconic U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D, the legendary starship from the beloved television series, Star Trek: The Next Generation.
A Detailed Look at the New Lego Starship
The set, comprised of a substantial 3,600 pieces, allows builders to meticulously construct the signature vessel that served as the primary setting for the show's seven-season run and the subsequent 1994 film, Star Trek Generations. According to the official press release, the model is packed with authentic features, including a detachable command saucer, a separate secondary hull, and imposing warp nacelles adorned with the ship's distinctive red and blue markings.
Further enhancing the play and display value, the Lego Enterprise boasts an opening shuttlebay that houses two mini shuttlepods, perfect for re-enacting classic scenes from the series. The set is brought to life with nine mini-figures of the show's most iconic characters. The crew includes Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Commander William Riker, Lieutenant Worf, and the android Lieutenant Commander Data. They are joined by Dr. Beverly Crusher, Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge, Counsellor Deanna Troi, the enigmatic bartender Guinan, and Wesley Crusher. Each figurine comes with themed accessories, such as a phaser, an engineering case, or a portable tractor beam generator.
Availability and Special Launch Offer
Eager fans will need to mark their calendars, as the set will not be available until November 28, which coincides with Black Friday this year. It will be sold through Lego's official website and in Lego brand stores for a price of $399.99. Once completed, the impressive model can be displayed on a specially designed angled stand that includes an information plaque. A separate display tile with Star Trek: The Next Generation branding is also provided for the mini-figures.
As an added incentive for early purchasers, Lego is offering a special gift with purchase, while supplies last. Customers who buy the new Star Trek set will receive the Lego Icons Star Trek: Type-15 Shuttlepod. This bonus set includes all the pieces needed to build a mini-figure-scale model of the small, two-person craft seen throughout the franchise.
Celebrity Endorsement and Lego's Legacy
The launch has been celebrated by those who know the ship best. Actor Jonathan Frakes, who portrayed Commander Riker in the series, expressed his excitement in a statement. "As Commander Riker, I spent a lot of time on the bridge of the Enterprise, and now fans can take the helm themselves… in LEGO brick form!" he said. "This set is a fantastic way to relive the adventures of the crew, piece by piece." Frakes also hinted at a cameo in a forthcoming livestream, offering fans a chance to win a signed Enterprise set.
This foray into the Star Trek universe continues Lego's tradition of bringing pop culture's most famous settings to life. Just in September, the company launched a massive, two-foot-tall Lego Star Wars Death Star. That set, containing a staggering 9,023 pieces and priced at $999.99, recreates a busy cross-section of the Galactic Empire's infamous battle station and holds the record for the most mini-figures ever included in a Lego set.
