A Glasgow event billed as an immersive Willy Wonka experience has been branded a 'farce' after leaving children in tears and prompting police involvement. The 'Willy's Chocolate Experience', organised by House of Illuminati, promised giant mushrooms, candy canes, chocolate fountains, and dancing Oompa-Loompas, with tickets costing up to £35.
However, attendees arriving at a warehouse in Whiteinch were met with a sparsely decorated space containing only a few plastic props, a small bouncy castle, and backdrops pinned to walls. The event was cancelled shortly after opening, but later ticket holders were not informed, with some having travelled long distances.
Furious families have set up a Facebook group to share their disappointment, describing the event as 'awful' and organisers as 'cowboys'. Actor Paul Connell, hired to perform, told STV News he was shocked to find no props or effects, and was instructed to improvise, handing children jelly beans and lemonade.
Police Scotland confirmed officers attended the venue following complaints. House of Illuminati apologised, citing last-minute letdowns, and confirmed full refunds would be issued within 10 days.
