Emily Blunt has begun promotional duties for Steven Spielberg's new film, 'Disclosure Day', in Paris, with critics already hailing her performance as Oscar-worthy. The film, which sees Blunt play Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City weather girl who develops extraordinary abilities, has been described as a 'giant, glorious blockbuster with a huge heart'.
Blunt's portrayal of Margaret has been praised for its seamless blend of comedy and drama, with particular highlights including a hilarious 'hailstones shimmy' and a harrowing panic attack on a train. The actress brings a rare combination of bravery, curiosity and humour to the role, grounding what could have been a slightly ridiculous sci-fi plot.
The film also features an impressive ensemble cast, including Colin Firth as the villainous Noah, Josh O'Connor as cybersecurity whizz Daniel, and Eve Hewson as his ex-nun girlfriend Jane. Wyatt Russell and Colman Domingo also appear in supporting roles.
While the plot, involving corporate espionage and an alien subplot, has been described as a 'total MacGuffin' and occasionally nonsensical, the film's tremendous sense of fun and slick pacing override any narrative imperfections. Spielberg's signature hopefulness for human empathy shines through, making 'Disclosure Day' a powerful and entertaining cinematic experience.
