Four bank holidays remain in the UK for 2026, though not every nation will observe them all. Most workers get bank holidays off, and schools close too.
Substitute bank holiday for Boxing Day
This year, people across the UK will observe a "substitute" bank holiday as Boxing Day "moves". Since Boxing Day, December 26, falls on a Saturday this year, the bank holiday will be observed on the following Monday, December 28, instead. Next year, both Christmas Day and Boxing Day bank holidays will "move" as these fall on a Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Summer bank holiday dates vary
All four UK nations will benefit from a bank holiday this month, although the exact date varies depending on where you live. England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will observe the Summer bank holiday on Monday, August 31. Those in Scotland, however, have already marked their Summer bank holiday - on Monday, August 3.
Remaining bank holidays in 2026
Following this, Scotland alone will also celebrate a bank holiday for St Andrew's Day on Monday, November 30. Later, all four UK nations will enjoy a bank holiday on Friday, December 25, for Christmas Day, followed by the aforementioned substitute bank holiday on Monday, December 28 - the final bank holiday of 2026.
