Anthony Demetre, a chef who appeared on the 2010 series of BBC's Great British Menu, has closed his Vermuteria restaurant in King's Cross after nearly a decade of operation.
The restaurant, which opened eight years ago at Coal Drops Yard, served an all-day European menu and a wide selection of vermouths. Demetre opened it in 2018 with designer Michael Sodeau, drawing inspiration from eateries and cafés found in Italy, France and Spain.
Devastating decision
In a statement posted on Instagram on July 31, Demetre expressed his sorrow over the closure. He wrote: "After eight wonderful years at Coal Drops Yard, Vermuteria has had to close its doors for one final time. We are devastated for our incredible staff, loyal customers, friends and supporters."
Demetre also thanked patrons who supported the restaurant, saying: "It's been an incredible journey and we are thankful that so many of you were able to join us and create lasting memories. The doors have closed on this chapter but the fire and hunger remain."
Demetre continues to own the Michelin-starred Wild Honey St James restaurant on Pall Mall.
