The full series of Doc Martin, the beloved medical comedy-drama starring Martin Clunes, is now available to stream free on ITVX. The show, which has drawn 10/10 ratings from some fans, has not aired since the 2022 Christmas Special, bringing an end to an 18-year run. Every episode remains accessible on the platform.
The story of Dr Martin Ellingham
The series spans 10 seasons and follows Dr Martin Ellingham, a talented London surgeon who develops a debilitating phobia of blood. He relocates to the tranquil seaside village of Portwenn, Cornwall, where he holidayed as a youth, to work as a local general practitioner. Despite his exceptional diagnostic skills, Martin is socially inept, brusque, and lacks a compassionate bedside manner, which the quirky local residents find hard to accept.
The programme also charts his developing relationship and marriage to village schoolteacher Louisa Glasson, played by Caroline Catz, as well as their growing family. The cast includes Ian McNeice as Bert Large, John Marquez as PC Joe Penhale, Selina Cadell as Mrs Tishall, Jessica Ransom as Morwenna Newcross, Eileen Atkins as Ruth Ellingham, and Joe Absolom as Al Large.
Death in Paradise star's role
Death in Paradise legend Ben Miller also starred in Doc Martin as eccentric local park ranger Stewart James in the first, second, and final series of the show.
Throughout its run, Doc Martin has attracted devoted audiences. One viewer on IMDb called the show "addictive", writing: "The Brits Know How to Do It. Doc Martin is so unusual and wonderfully off-kilter that it becomes addictive within 20 minutes of exposure."
Fan praise and availability
A second fan added: "Doc Martin is as close as it gets to perfection. Martin Clunes and Dominic Minghella should (and I'm sure do) take intense pride over their creation. The writing is the best in the business, the director Ben Bolt is amazing, and the acting is subtle, natural, hilarious and touching."
They continued: "In addition to Martin Clunes, Caroline Catz has shown herself to be one of the best of her generation. And the scenery and music, of course, are beautiful." On Rotten Tomatoes, another fan called the series a "10/10 must watch," while another added, "I love this show. I can never get enough of it." The entire Doc Martin series is available on ITVX.
