Time season 3 cast: Happy Valley and Broadchurch stars join BBC drama

BBC prison drama Time returns to screens on Sunday, October 11, at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with the new season set at a young offenders' institution. The series follows Chaplain Marie Louise O'Dell, played by Siobhan Finneran, who appears in all three series as she adjusts to her new position. It does not take long before Marie-Louise finds herself "at odds" with the custodial manager in dealing with a young man who recently reconnected with his birth mother.

Marie Louise O'Dell - Siobhan Finneran

Fans are reunited with prison chaplain Marie Louise O'Dell as she starts work at a young offender institution having lost her faith. She is portrayed by Siobhan Finneran, known for starring as Clare Cartwright in Happy Valley and Sarah O'Brien in Downton Abbey. Her other notable roles include The Stranger, Cold Feet, Alma's Not Normal and Unchosen.

Bobby Bailey - David Tennant

Finneran is joined by David Tennant, best recognised for portraying the 10th Time Lord in Doctor Who and DI Alec Hardy in Broadchurch. Tennant has also featured in the Harry Potter franchise, Good Omens, Des, The Hack and, most recently, Rivals as Lord Tony Baddingham on Disney Plus. He plays veteran officer Bobby Bailey, "a man in the midst of his own crisis" who knows more than he is letting on about a major incident.

Fred Jennings - Daniel Ryan

Fred Jennings is another officer at the institution who, while good at his job, is now focusing more on the end of his career rather than what the young men need. He is played by Daniel Ryan, best known for starring as DI Tony Manning in The Bay, Dan in Mount Pleasant, Steve Holland in Dear England and Phil Collins in Innocent.

Christopher - Chukwubuikem Molokwu

Christopher is one of the young men in the institution who was abandoned by his mother when he was around four years old. He is played by newcomer Chukwubuikem Molokwu, who had to learn how to stammer for the role. Molokwu told the BBC: "We'd practise and practise because the main thing is stamina, it's a physically tiring thing, you genuinely do feel tired. On set you have to be prepared to do the stammer over and over again."

Erica Bailey - Vinette Robinson

Taking on the role of Bobby Bailey's wife Erica is actress Vinette Robinson, recognisable from Sherlock, The A Word, Boiling Point, The Lazarus Project and Six Four. Other cast members include James (Louis McCartney), Peter (Ollie McNulty) and Jayden (Ethaniel Davy).
