Actor Warwick Davis has revealed he has found love again with a woman he affectionately calls 'Sponge', who he says reminds him of the character Kerry Mucklowe from the BBC series 'This Country'. The 55-year-old star, known for roles in Harry Potter and Star Wars, spoke about his new relationship on 'The Jonathan Ross Show'.
Davis, who was awarded the Bafta Fellowship in February, thanked Sponge for helping him 'laugh and love again' following the death of his wife Samantha last March. He described his late wife as his 'most trusted confidant' and said her passing left 'a huge hole' in their family's life.
The actor jokingly referred to Sponge as 'She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named', in a nod to his Harry Potter role as Professor Flitwick. He said: 'Sponge very much reminds me of Kerry. Some of the things she says and her accent.' Kerry Mucklowe is a character played by Daisy May Cooper in the mockumentary series set in the Cotswolds.
Davis rose to fame as an 11-year-old playing an Ewok in 'Star Wars: Return of the Jedi' and later starred in 'Willow' and 'Leprechaun'. He and Samantha co-founded Little People UK, a charity supporting people with dwarfism. The couple had two children, Annabelle and Harrison.
In his Bafta speech, Davis dedicated the honour to his wife and thanked Sponge for showing him that 'life can still have meaning'. The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday at 9.20pm on ITV and ITVX.
