Retired tennis star CoCo Vandeweghe has revealed that she was rushed to hospital after a 'serious fall' while travelling to Wimbledon. Vandeweghe, who played her last competitive match in 2023, has been working as a pundit for ESPN at this year's tournament. However, she was thrown a curveball on her way to SW19 when she suffered facial injuries in a nasty fall.
Details of the Incident
Vandeweghe took to Instagram to update her followers, revealing that she was back working with ESPN after an unexpected hospital trip. She explained that she was left with some gruesome injuries and needed to have some new teeth to replace the ones she had lost.
'Last Tuesday, on my walk to Wimbledon, I had an unexpected accident and took a pretty serious fall,' said the American. 'I ended up biting through my lip, fracturing my chin, and chipping my two front teeth. It was a scary experience, but I'm so grateful to say my stitches are out.'
Recovery and Gratitude
'I got my new teeth a couple of days ago, and I'm healing well. Best of all, I'm back at work! This past week has reminded me just how fortunate I am to be surrounded by incredible people,' Vandeweghe added.
'Thank you to my friend Elena, who was by my side the moment I called for help; to my mom and fiance, Daniel, who immediately flew to London to be with me. To my ESPN family, who constantly checked in and made sure I was taken care of; and to the amazing surgeons, doctors, nurses and hospital staff who quite literally put me back together again like Humpty Dumpty.'
Impact and Return to Work
Despite the ordeal, Vandeweghe has returned to her punditry duties at Wimbledon, demonstrating resilience and a positive outlook. Her accident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life, even for professional athletes.
