Sir Tom Jones has returned to the stage after a bout of flu forced him to postpone four live shows in the USA. The 86-year-old singer performed at San Diego's The Rady Shell venue as part of his Come Gather Round tour, appearing to have recovered from the illness that disrupted his schedule.
Rescheduled dates and recovery
The Treforest-born singer had pulled shows on October 26, October 29, 31 and November 1 after being "unexpectedly been hit with a bad case of the flu." His November 3 gig at Rady Shell was rescheduled from October 27.
Sir Tom is now due to perform on November 4 and 6 at The Greek Theatre in LA and Highland's Taamava Theatre respectively, both dates rescheduled from last week. At the time of the postponements, he apologised and said he was following doctor's advice.
Message to fans
Last week he shared on Instagram: "I'm really sorry, but following further advice from my doctor, my next two shows on October 31st at Hard Rock Live Sacramento, CA and November 1st at The Masonic, San Francisco, CA will need to be postponed until further notice."
He added: "I know this will be disappointing for those of you who were planning to attend, and I thank you for your continued support and understanding! Further updates regarding the postponed dates will be shared as soon as possible." He also stated that "tickets for the original dates will remain valid, however, should customers wish to do so, they can also contact their original point of purchase for a full refund."
The Voice UK success
Over the weekend, Sir Tom also saw success on The Voice UK as Cate McHugh won the 2026 series under his coaching. This follows ITV's announcement earlier this autumn that he would not return as a main coach for the 2027 series, with him and McFly pair Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones being replaced by Cheryl and Aitch.
Sir Tom spoke out after the decision was announced, saying: "To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience. ITV made this decision - obviously a while ago, and I was just told recently."
