Tina Daheley's Radio 2 Absence Linked to Scott Mills Dismissal
The unexplained absence of BBC Radio 2 presenter Tina Daheley has been clarified in the wake of her co-host Scott Mills' sudden sacking by the corporation. Daheley has not appeared on the programme since Mills was removed from his role over the weekend following the emergence of historic allegations.
Historic Allegations Prompt BBC Investigation
The Mirror disclosed that Scott Mills, after nearly three decades at the BBC, was taken off air and dismissed after a complaint was lodged regarding his "personal conduct." This prompted an immediate internal investigation by the broadcaster. During his final broadcast on March 24, Mills told listeners he would return "tomorrow," but that promise was never fulfilled, with Gary Davies stepping in to host the show instead.
Questions quickly arose about the whereabouts of Tina Daheley, who has co-hosted the show with Mills since January of last year. Sources have now indicated that behind the scenes, there are significant "questions" about Daheley not being at work. One source commented, "But the general feeling is that it's probably for the best," adding to the Daily Mail that "There would have been pressure to answer uncomfortable questions from everyone."
Daheley's Career and Social Media Silence
Tina Daheley joined the BBC in 2007 and moved to Radio 2 in 2019, initially working alongside Zoe Ball before Mills took over from Ball in January 2025. Just a few weeks ago, in January, Daheley expressed her affection for her "Radio 2 family" on Instagram, sharing a photograph of herself, Scott Mills, and their colleagues. However, like Mills, she has maintained complete silence on social media platforms and has not posted any updates since the incident.
The BBC's decision to axe Mills relates to a previous police investigation from 2016, which centered on a teenage boy. Last night, the Mirror revealed that new information involving the same individual has been disclosed, with these claims being distinct from the investigation into serious sexual offences that occurred a decade ago.
Scott Mills' Devastation and Police Investigation Details
Sources close to Mills have described him as devastated by his sacking, which came after "tense" discussions with BBC executives. A friend revealed, "The show was his life, and he is facing oblivion. It's hard to see how he comes back at this moment in time." Those in his inner circle were reportedly "totally in the dark" about the dismissal over the weekend, and many have been unable to contact him, leading to widespread concern. "Everyone is worried about him," a source stated.
In 2018, Scott Mills was interviewed under caution by police regarding allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy, reported to have taken place between 1997 and 2000. The Crown Prosecution Service later dropped the case due to insufficient evidence, and the investigation was formally closed in May 2019. A police spokesperson confirmed, "A full file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, who determined the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges."
