Four and a half decades after first bursting onto television screens, legendary Scottish comedy duo The Krankies appear almost unrecognisable from their peak fame years.
Janette and Ian Tough, now both in their mid-70s, became household names throughout the 1970s and 1980s with their beloved act featuring Janette's iconic schoolboy character Wee Jimmy Krankie.
Recent photographs show the couple, who have been married for over 50 years, looking dramatically different from their heyday when they regularly appeared on top variety shows including The Good Old Days and Saturday Night at the London Palladium.
From Stage Stars to Pandemic Struggles
The Glasgow-born entertainers enjoyed decades of success in pantomime, television, and even music, releasing several novelty singles including the 1980 hit 'Fan-Dabi-Dozi'.
Like many performers, the couple faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, which devastated the live entertainment industry. Janette revealed they were forced to sell their beloved Mercedes to make ends meet during lockdowns.
Health Battles and Resilience
Both stars have faced serious health issues in recent years. Ian underwent major heart surgery in 2019, while Janette suffered a terrifying accident in 2021 when she was knocked unconscious during a performance.
Despite these challenges, the resilient performers continue to work occasionally, proving their showbusiness spirit remains undimmed even after 45 years in the spotlight.
The Krankies' enduring partnership both on and off stage stands as a testament to their talent and dedication to entertaining generations of British audiences.
