Nigel Martin-Smith, the manager who discovered and launched Take That in the early 1990s, has been living a relatively quiet life in Manchester. Now in his 60s, he continues to work in the music industry, running his own management company from the city.
Martin-Smith first spotted Gary Barlow performing in a working men's club and later assembled the band that would become one of the UK's most successful pop groups. After Take That's initial split in 1996, he managed other acts but largely stepped back from the spotlight.
Today, he is based in Manchester, where he manages a small roster of artists and occasionally gives interviews about his time with the band. He has remained in touch with some former members, though his relationship with the group has been described as cordial but distant.
Despite his low profile, Martin-Smith's influence on British pop music remains significant. He is credited with shaping the boy band formula that dominated the 1990s, and his work with Take That laid the groundwork for their later reunions and continued success.
