Actor Sydney Sweeney may face legal consequences after climbing the iconic Hollywood sign to promote her new lingerie line, Syrn. The 28-year-old 'Euphoria' star was filmed scaling the 45-foot-tall letters and hanging a clothesline of bras over the landmark, according to footage obtained by TMZ.
While Sweeney secured a permit from Film LA to shoot at the site, she did not obtain prior approval from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to touch or climb the letters. The chamber told TMZ: 'There was no permission granted to do this, as is required.' This could result in charges of criminal trespassing or vandalism if the chamber decides to press charges.
Trespassing on the Hollywood sign is typically a misdemeanour, punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 or up to six months in jail. The sign, built in 1923 and donated to the city in 1944, sits on public land in Griffith Park but is trademarked by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and managed by the non-profit Hollywood Sign Trust. It is illegal to climb due to restricted area status, and the site is protected by surveillance cameras, fencing, and motion sensors.
However, the Los Angeles Police Department told Fox News Digital that there is no investigation into the incident as 'no crime was committed.' Neither the chamber nor Sweeney's representatives have commented. Sweeney's lingerie line, Syrn, is expected to launch on Wednesday, financed by Coatue, whose investors include Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez.
